With only three weeks before the start of the F1 season, Fernando Alonso feels that the 2008-spec Renault is not in a position to win races.
He was quoted as having said to a Spanish newspaper “Where are we? Quite a long way behind”, “We are not in a position to do anything about McLaren, Ferrari or BMW“.
“Ferrari are favourites but they’re are in a different world. We however belong more to the group including Williams and Red Bull“.
Renault have recently dismissed claims that they will use a revolutionary rear wing at the Australian Grand Prix. Rumours began about a new wing known as the ‘W’ because of its shape after reports given on a Dutch Website, however, Alonso insisted that the team were not about to ‘present anything revolutionary’ but he did suggest that the team would shortly test some improvements to the front of the car that would give them an extra one or two-tenths of a second per lap.
