After the shocking reports of the Honda Formula One team leaving the paddock, rumours are now warning that the Toyota team could be next, despite confirming their continuation in F1.
Toyota’s car sales are even lower than Honda’s in the US market and as Ron Dennis has said,
“Our budgets come from the advertising budgets of the companies that support us, and inevitably advertising budgets get slashed or, at least are significantly trimmed in times of economic strife.”
Meanwhile, one of the Honda drivers Jenson Button, has said that he will contemplate any offers to race in the 2009 season.
He told one newspaper,
“I want to race in F1, I am happy to listen to anybody who will give me the opportunity to do so…whatever the cost.”
Button, recently signed for the Honda team for the 2009 season, but it has allegedly been said that this can be undone after the circumstances.
It has been suggested that Button could be offered a drive with the Toro Rosso team, however, in a recent report from the sister Red Bull team, it said that,
“Honda’s withdrawal will have no impact on the choice of Toro Rosso’s pilots.”
