World Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has been rewarded for his heroics on the race track by being awarded an MBE in the Queens New Year honours list.
Hamilton became the youngest ever formula one champion when he overtook Timo Glock on the last corner of the Brazilian Interlagos circuit to snatch fifth place in the final race of the season, enough to take the title from the grasp of race winner Felipe Massa.
Hamilton said he was humbled to receive the honour and added;
“It is a massive honour and incredible privilege to receive an MBE from Her Majesty the Queen, It is the most amazing culmination to what has been quite a year for me and something I am very appreciative of.”
