Potential buyers of the Honda Racing team have received a welcome message from rivals Mercedes Motorsport regarding the supply of engines for the coming season.
Honda Racing were taken aback yesterday when Ferrari announced at the launch of the all new F60 2009 race car, that the chances of supplying engines to Honda were practically zero. This statement seemed to come out of the blue after Ross Brawn had opened negotiations with his former employers at Ferrari only days ago.
Mercedes could come to the rescue of the Honda team, having already committed to supplying the Force India with engines for this year, team boss Norbert Haug has suggested that it could be possible to supply the Honda team.
Crucially the potential buyers of Honda would need to be financially sound for Mercedes to even consider offering engines, but with Nick Fry and Ross Brawn also looking for a long term investor rather than a short term fix, Honda are likely to fulfill that criteria.
