Fernando Alonso, the Renault Formula One driver, has revealed that the 2009 car, the R29, will make it’s track debut on January 20th.
The R29, will be featuring the new KERS system for the first time and Alonso revealed that the car to be launched in January will be very different from the car that will arrive at the first race meeting.
The Spanish driver has also made his feeling quite clear in respect to the possible enforcement of standard engines in 2010.
Alonso said,
“If they approve a single engine, that would be the last straw. It would be time to start thinking about retirement.”
Alonso feels that Formula One would be taking another step backwards if they considered standardising parts such as engines.
The F1 car manufacturers, have also hinted at withdrawing from the sport if the proposal from the FIA goes ahead.
Last weekend the Renault team were at Sau Paulo, Brazil for the final road show demonstration of 2008 with Nelson Piquet Jr. at the wheel.
