A museum has been opened dedicated to the Swedish Formula One driver, Ronnie Peterson, in his hometown of Örebro nearly 30-years after his death.
Peterson made his debut in Formula One driving a March in 1970 and by 1971 finished in second place in the F1 Championship behind Jackie Stewart while also becoming the F2 European Champion.
In 1973 he started with the Lotus team, winning four races out of fifteen starts and ended the season third in the Championship behind Emerson Fittipaldi, his team-mate and Jackie Stewart in the Tyrrell.
Ronnie Peterson had 123 Grand Prix starts and amazingly only actually won at 10 of these races but proved to everyone that he had the potential of becoming a World Champion.
Tragically, Peterson was badly injured when he crashed at the Italian Grand Prix in 1978 and died on the 11th of September, he was 34-years-old.
In memory of the great Ronnie Peterson;
