Lewis Hamilton won his home Grand Prix for McLaren yesterday at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

Hamilton got a fantastic start off the line as he sailed through from fourth place on the grid up into second by the first corner behind his team-mate Heikki Kovalainen, although there seemed to be contact between the two drivers, no damage was done.

On the first lap, Mark Webber in the Red Bull spun on the wet track followed by Felipe Massa who continued to spin for the rest of the race. On the second lap David Coulthard goes off track and his last British Grand Prix was over before it begun.

Hamilton went into the lead on lap five with Kovalainen behind him and Kimi Raikkonen in third as he gradually started to increase the gap.

Adrian Sutil in the Force India had a huge spin on lap nine which ended any further involvement from him as the rain began to come down again.

Nick Heidfeld in the BMW Sauber made a great pass on Fernando Alonso in the Renault to take third place as Raikkonen started to struggle with the tyres he opted not to change in the pit stop.

Rubens Barrichello had a disastrous pit stop which seemed to take an age while Nelson Piquet slid off the track and out of the race.

Jenson Button in the Honda went out of the race with only nineteen laps to go with technical problems as Hamilton built a lead of almost forty seconds on the second car of Nick Heidfeld.

Kazuki Nakajima who started in fifteenth place for the Williams team, was in up in seventh place with only five laps to go to the end of the race.

Hamilton took the victory followed by Nick Heidfeld in second and Rubens Barrichello in third. Kimi Raikkonen held onto his fourth place ahead of Heikki Kovalainen and Fernando Alonso.
