Despite facing the worst financial year of their long history, Japanese car making giant Toyota have today spoken of their commitment to Formula One and other motorsport interests, albeit with a reduced financial outlay.
Honda’s departure from the F1 grid early in December led to speculation that Japanese rivals Toyota would be the next manufacturer to pull out, but Toyota president Katsuaki Watanabe insists that they will not follow Honda out of F1, or fellow Japanese car makers Suzuki and Subaru out of the WRC.
Toyota hope that the recent agreements within F1 to reduce running costs will enable the Japanese team to cut back their financial outgoings within the sport while retaining their status in the paddock.
