Will Ron Dennis Step-down?

Joy Ryder - Tuesday 04.03.08, 16:34pm

RonJo Ramirez, a long-time former employee of McLaren Formula 1, has said in a report in an Austrian magazine that “Without Ron Dennis McLaren will be doomed.”

Ramirez spent 17 years as McLaren’s team co-ordinator until his retirement in 2001. He suggests that the Mercedes-powered team could go into decline without Dennis, who has been in control of the successful Formula 1 team for three decades.

Martin Whitmarsh who will step into the shoes of Dennis’s if the rumours are true, told the Guardian Newspaper that there is no pressure on his current boss to step-down. He said “I’ve been at McLaren for 19 years and am incredibly patient. Nor do I intend to be the Judas who knifed Ron in the back.”

Ramirez rates Whitmarsh but thinks Dennis is irreplaceable, he said “Martin Whitmarsh is a good man but a hundred Martin Whitmarshes could not replace Ron. If he does go, it will be very bad for the team.”

Dennis and Ramirez are still said to be close friends and Ramirez remarked that the espionage scandal and the politics of 2007 left his former boss in a bad way. He went onto say “Ron is really, really down, What happened last year has really hurt him. I think Max Mosley wants to destroy him, but I cannot understand it - Ron does not deserve that.”
